Notice
of request for an order to declare that the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA)
does not apply to the planning and construction the Port of Prescott Expansion,
Rehabilitation and Future Development Area
The Port of Prescott, located east of the Town of Prescott in Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Township, is the only large marine terminal between Montreal and Toronto. Shipping is the cheapest mode of transportation, and detailed business plans show the potential for increased shipping using the Port.
Project Location
The proposed expansion has three
stages. First
is construction of a new wharf and terminal. Stage two will repair an existing
wharf, and stage three is a land-based expansion for future bulk storage.
Environmental studies, completed by the Port of Prescott, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, and South Nation Conservation show the expansion will not harm the environment.
For more information, including closing date for comments, visit the Ministry of the Environment’s Environmental Registry: www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEB-External/, registry # 011-0078.
